OpenHealthRecord is a collaborative, community-based way of recording your health record.
A health record is simply a place to store all of the information about your health.
The goal is to enable your health data to be comprehensively and ubiquitously available, while at the same time guaranteeing your personal privacy.
It is intended that the community (the users of OpenHealthRecord, like you and me) will be able to browse and share health data for mutual support and benefit. An active community is important to realize the benefits of making your data open and shareable.
To ensure maximum choice there will be multiple implementations of OpenHealthRecord. Each will have its own features and benefits, and some may be commercial, but data will always be portable across implementations. Health records may also be replicated across implementations to maximise availability and resilience. Much of the data will be collected and organised using templates. The intention is that there will be collaboration in the development and creation of a useful set of templates that can be shared across the community of users.
Ultimately your health record is your data. It does not belong to your physician or your health care provider, it belongs to you. By taking responsibility for it you can ensure that it is accurate and complete and, with the help of this project, make it available to those people who need to treat you, in a timely and convenient manner. OpenHeathRecord can help you to reap the benefits of total ownership and control over your own heath data.
